Freshers Week » How does Freshers-Week.com work? This website contains a huge database of student profiles fully searchable by academic institution, course and halls of residence. Students register their own profile against their academic year, institution, course and halls…and can then search the profiles of other students starting at the same time. Students can perform searches, interact with other Freshers through messaging, chat and forums…or just check out the talent around campus! Freshers Week » Why should I join?Freshers Week is crucial…the people you meet during this period will probably remain your friends through studies and beyond. You might meet lovers, future husbands and wives, housemates, and drinking buddies.
Unfortunately, the process is purely random… and you might be the unlucky one who gets stuck with people you spend the rest of your first year trying to get rid of!
Freshers-Week.com offers you a unique opportunity to start meeting your fellow Freshers right now. It is much easier it is to introduce yourself by sending or posting a witty message…rather than getting too drunk and being known for the rest of your academic life as the ‘the guy who vomited in his own pants’. (That did happen – York University Class of 2000…you know who you are.)
What better feeling that to walk into the Student Union on your very first night as a student and already know a few faces? Freshers Week » Our networkOur service is essentially a network of interlinked Freshers communities. The network is continually expanding and comprises our main website and a series of mini-websites serving specific universities and colleges. There are approximately 50 of these ‘local interfaces’ and student unions link to these from their own websites during the Freshers period.
Freshers Week » What is it?Freshers Week is the term that UK universities and colleges give to the period immediately before the beginning of a new academic year. The purpose is to give new students a chance to meet their housemates, make new friends and sort out administration tasks such as opening student bank accounts prior to their studies commencing. Freshers week is usually based around a series of social events such as discos, live bands, parties…and a Freshers Ball. Freshers Week » Freshers FairsThe Freshers Fair offers freebies, give-aways, advice and information. It is often a great opportunity for new students to mingle with other freshers, current students, tutors, and representatives from the Student Union. All universities have clubs and societies and many of them use the Freshers' Fair as their opportunity to let you know what is on offer.
The Freshers' Fair is a great way to find out about the services and facilities of your local city or town. There are often representatives from local entertainment, leisure facilities, restaurants, clubs, pubs, insurance agencies, travel agents, mobile phone companies, taxi services and recruitment agencies. They are there to promote offers geared towards students and some will be competitive and discounted deals, but remember they are interested in attracting new customers – think carefully about the pros and cons of any services before signing up. The university or college health care, counselling, welfare services and other agencies, all usually have stalls at the Freshers' Fair so you can get information and find out how to access support if you require it during your course. And if you miss a stall or need more information, don't panic, contact your Student Union to learn more or to find out how to get involved.
Most of all...have a great time and enjoy Freshers Week.
